2017 Volkswagen Passat: Changes from 2016 to 2017Dec 29th, 2016
2017 Volkswagen Passat
Few mid-sized sedans match the elegance, comfort, technology, and affordability of the Volkswagen Passat. In 2016 the Passat received a full facelift, both inside and out. This shake up even came with the added bonus of the MIB II system, the Volkswagen infotainment system that connects to all phones. Due to the full facelift and injection of technology, a lot of folks were wondering what Volkswagen would do to make sure that the Passat aggressively competes with the competition for 2017. In an effort to stay relevant, VW upgraded the 2017 Passat with a heap of Volkswagen safety technology, even more standard features, and a brand new V6 SEL with Technology model. For specifics of the ins and outs of the 2017 Passat’s upgrades, read on!
2017 Volkswagen Passat Configurations
The 2017 VW Passat features 7 different available trims, with varying levels of technology and premium features. The biggest change for 2017 is the addition of the brand-new, order-only V6 SE with Technology trim, which has enough features to make even the most tech-savvy family member blush. The V6 SE with Technology model provides owners with access to a new hands-free easy-open trunk, remote start, and touch screen navigation. Owners can also experience the ease of the new Adaptive Cruise Control and even park like a pro with the new Park Distance Control (Park Pilot) feature. With 280 horsepower, the V6 SE with Technology trim level offers you both power and a surprising amount of fuel efficiency. This particular model, with its V6, receives an amazing 11.76 L/100km in the city and 8.4 L/100km on the highway, allowing you to easily get to where you want to go cheaply and efficiently.
That’s not where advances from 2016 to 2017 end though. Both the 2017 VW Passat SE and 2017 Passat R-line models were recipients of most of Volkswagens year over year technological boost. For example, the new 2017 Passat SE now has standard keyless access, push-button start, heated seats, and options for Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, plenty of USB ports, and even leatherette seats. On the opposite side of things, the R-line got the new Composition Media touch screen, Front Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, leatherette seats, and heated front seats. Previously, drivers needed to choose the R-Line with Comfort Package for many of these features.
2017 Passat Safety Technology
One of the biggest changes from 2016 to 2017 is the introduction of Volkswagen’s Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking systems on all trim levels. The Forward Collision Warning system will allow the Passat to continually monitor the front of the car and issue a warning if it deems a collision imminent. If the driver doesn’t respond, the Passat will automatically come to a stop on its own, due to the Autonomous Emergency Braking system. That’s not all though. The Passat also received a Blind Spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert standard on both the R-line and SE trims. All of these features are aimed at ensuring that you enjoy a safer driving experience, allowing you to feel more confident on the road.
Due to Volkswagen’s focus on safety in the 2017 Passat, the vehicle received a rating of Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The 2017 Passat also received a 5-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration — the highest rating possible from the American safety agency.
2017 Passat V6 SE with Technology
As we mentioned earlier, one of the biggest changes for 2017 is the introduction of the new Passat V6 w/ Technology. Not only does this provide an absurd amount of technology and driver-focused features, it offers individuals who may have been priced out of the previously only V6 model available. The previous V6 SEL Premium offered owners the top tier of Passat luxury, with a host of technology and features. This year’s V6 SE with Technology allows owners to still have access to many the features that make the SEL Premium so luxurious with the added advantage of not having to break the bank to do so. Features like Adaptive Cruise control, remote start, and touchscreen navigation on top of a V6 engine with impressive fuel efficiency and state-of-the-art safety technology means that the V6 SE with Technology offers an impressive amount of value with the advantage of a price tag that starts several thousand dollars below the fully loaded V6 SEL Premium.
2017 VW Passat Changes
While Volkswagen didn’t exactly implement massive sweeping changes across the full Passat lineup, they did put a significantly greater focus on driver assistance and creature comforts. Drivers now have options to include some of the most advanced vehicle safety technology systems available to consumers. In fact, several trims even made some of these systems standard and did so without sacrificing fuel efficiency or passenger comfort. Drivers also now have the option of a previously unavailable new trim that provides a huge amount of value to anyone looking to purchase a 2017 VW Passat.
